Miss Peterson was born in Lynn, MA. She attended University of Massachusetts, Lowell, where she majored in English/Literature and minored in Sociology. She finished her degree at University of Maine, Machias, and University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, graduating magna cum laude.
Miss Peterson began her teaching career in the southwest in Santa Fe and Los Lunas, NM. There she taught a variety of history courses as well as starting and running a drama program at Los Lunas Middle School for 7 years. She was also the head of a program called A.V.I.D., which stands for Advancement via Individual Determination. In her time at Los Lunas Middle School, she wrote and directed plays for the middle school stage. By using pop culture references as well as music everyone could relate to, it was at Los Lunas Middle School that she adapted Shakespeare plays to make them more accessible to modern day audiences.
She also taught in Long Beach, CA, for four years, teaching a variety of history courses as well as starting and running a drama program for students in grades 6 through 8. In Long Beach she learned the value of using hands-on activities to teach history. She used simulations as well as performances to enhance the learning of history for her students. Students were able to reenact the Constitutional Convention of 1789 as well as go on a Lewis & Clark expedition around their campus. They were even known to hold press conferences to interview such famous world figures as John Locke, Abigail Adams, and Thomas Hobbes.
In 2010, Miss Peterson moved back east and worked at Timberlane Regional Middle School in Plaistow, NH. At Timberlane she collaborate with colleagues creating lessons and units involving both literature and history. It was also at TRMS that she developed a passion for teaching YA novels to struggling readers. She has a knack for helping reluctant readers find books to love.
Miss Peterson came to Arts Academy of New Hampshire (then GSAA) in 2016, its first year in Salem. She has been helping kids obtain a better understanding of the SAT since then.
