Arts Focus
The Dance Department offers Introduction to Dance, which allows students to learn the basics of classical ballet, jazz, and modern. Dance History focuses on the development of dance through the twenty-first century. World Dance is an introductory course designed to survey dances of selected cultures. Intermediate and Advanced Dance classes cover technique, characterization, versatility, dedication, poise and grace, emotional connection, professionalism, criticism, fitness and maintaining a healthy attitude in both mind and body.
The Music Department offers a balance between traditional and contemporary music courses. Students may develop current or new skills playing traditional orchestral or concert band instruments in Instrumental Ensemble, learn to play ukulele or acoustic guitar in introductory courses or continue to build their skills playing in the Acoustic Guitar and Ukulele Ensemble, explore music from a range of styles and time periods in Chorus, or explore contemporary commercial music in the Rock Ensemble. Introduction to Music, History of Rock and Roll, Music Theory, and World of Music offer opportunities for all students to explore many facets of music beyond performance. The Theater Department offers Introduction to Theater, Drama Workshop, Advanced Drama Workshop, Historical Theater, Theater Design, and American Musical. Students will have the ability to learn lighting, sound, movement, blocking, classical and modern plays. Two major shows are put on each year, and students incorporate student-driven productions into a theater showcase at the end of each semester. The Visual Arts Department offers students opportunities to explore art-making in a variety of methods and media. Lessons include drawing and painting, sculpture, digital art, and ceramics. In addition, we offer Art History for students who have an interest in art but may not choose to actively make art themselves. Classes are specifically designed to provide students with a balance of instruction and artistic freedom that encourages learning while allowing for the individual to explore and discover their personal artistic voice. Visual arts classes are enhanced by field trips to area museums and art colleges as well as visiting artists. |
