Susannah Deily-Swearingen

Dr. Susannah Deily-Swearingen was raised in Pensacola, Florida, and first came to New England to attend Walnut Hill School for the Arts, a boarding school where she concentrated in Theatre during her secondary education. She continued her theatrical training at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and Brandeis University, and later earned a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts from Brown University.
In 2013, driven by a longstanding passion for history, Dr. Deily-Swearingen began doctoral studies at the University of New Hampshire, where she earned her Ph.D. in History in 2019. She has taught at the collegiate level for nearly two decades, with areas of specialization that include United States history, architectural history, and public speaking. Her scholarship includes numerous published articles exploring various facets of the American experience, and she is currently completing final edits on her first monograph, Rebel Rebels: Race, Resistance, and Remembrance in the Free State of Winston.
Dr. Deily-Swearingen is delighted to join the faculty of the Arts Academy, drawing inspiration from her own transformative experiences as a student in arts education, and her desire to help academy students understand the formative role that artists of all kinds have played in influencing the historical trajectories of the nation.
