Andrea Mattei-Brown grew up in a big, warm, loud, and crazy Italian family in Southern Connecticut, where the pizza is, hands down, the best anywhere around! After graduating from Fairfield University with a dual concentration degree in English Literature and Writing, as well as a minor in Sociology, she moved to New York City, where she started working as an editorial assistant in nonfiction book publishing at Penguin Putnam. She then moved on while in NYC to be the Managing Editor of MR Magazine, a monthly magazine devoted to menswear retail/fashion. Upon meeting and marrying her husband, she relocated to Massachusetts, again working as a nonfiction book editor for Adams Media.
Currently a resident of Pelham, NH, Andrea decided to switch career gears and become a teacher after several years of raising her three wonderful children, when she realized her desire to combine her enthusiasm for working with young people and passion for sharing her love of literature, words, and writing. Prior to joining the team at the Arts Academy of NH, she was the junior high English teacher at Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, NH. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, being outdoors—especially in the summer—and spending time with her friends, family, and amazing dog, Lilly. A naturally expressive and creative person who gravitates toward music, theater, and the arts, Andrea is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring her varied experiences as an editor, writer, and teacher to the Arts Academy. She hopes to blend her copious knowledge of grammar, syntax, structure, and other writing elements to help students develop as strong, articulate, and confident academic writers, while also integrating her love of writing as a deeply creative, personal means of self-expression into the overall artistic vision of the Arts Academy.
